Trafalgar Square is home for the famous Nelson’s Column, built to commemorate Admiral Horatio Nelson, who died at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. The square was named to commemorate the famous “Battle of Trafalgar”, in which The British Royal Navy defeated the combined fleets of the French and Spanish naval fleets. It is also home to the National Gallery, which is principally known its collection of paintings over the period between 1260 and 1900.
